About the author

Paula Hillick is a lifelong learner and heart centered alchemist, who loves creating magical teaching tools. She is a highly energetic and passionate speaker, teacher, collaborator, creator and writer. For over 15 years she has taught children in schools, churches and camps and adults in the corporate world. Paula has an undergradate degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Education. She lives with her husband and son in Toronto.

How it started

My childhood was extremely unhappy. Growing up, I really thought that life was a misery; usually a misery of someone else’s making. I actually remember thinking as a teenager “if life was a misery than it was going to be a misery of my making not anyone else’s – I would make my life miserable – no one else ”. It was a kind of “bite my nose to spite my face” ideology. Can you imagine thinking like that?

In any case – when I was in my early 20’s a friend gave me the book “Way of the Peaceful Warrior” and what I learned from that book was the start of changing my life. The book taught me that perception is a choice and therefore happiness is a choice – you can choose  happiness or you can choose misery. So it became my intention to choose happiness. I still didn’t know quite how to do that – but it was at least a beginning, just the idea that I could choose to be happy.

Choosing happiness

2 degrees, many classes, courses, coaches, books and life experiences, I NOW do know how to choose happiness. Choosing happiness is a practice and a process. There are
many, many, many things you can do create more joy in your life! Just as every person is unique, so is every life path.

When I became a parent, it was extremely important to me to teach the learning gained over the last 20+ years to my son in a way that he would understand. To do that, I created tools that I desperately wished I had been given as a child. As I shared those tools with other parents, teachers, family and friends, they embraced the tools which encouraged me to continue to share them. This is where I am today.

THINK, CARE, SHARE is the culmination of 20+ years of study
and work. I encourage you to create your happiest life. THINK about the life you want to live. CARE enough about your self
and others to begin to lead that life. And SHARE what you know and what you learn. Together we can change the world!

author Paula Hillick

“I have seen this book work magic in the lives of the families who have read it.

The Grump characters help us all to be mindful of how the behaviours of others
can effect us if we allow it. With better awareness we can absolutely live happier lives by controlling not others, but what we choose to think, say, feel and do.”

One reviewer says...

The Grumps is deceptively simple picture book, with an incredibly important message! It promotes kindness and the reduction of schoolyard scuffles and bullying. The material is easy for younger grades and preschoolers to understand. I love the text!”

— Alexia O’Neill, mother

An intuitive coach says...

“Through storytelling, Paula Hillick weaves love and compassion by empowering children and their adults to choose how they will experience their world. Her books are uplifting keepsakes that will be passed on through generations!”

— Susan Mullen, certified intuitive coach
